Notarial services
Consular officials do not provide any legal advice or represent a person in court. The office provides the following notarial services, , to Canadian citizens and, in limited cases, to non-Canadian citizens if the documents are intended for use in Canada.
A Statement in lieu of a criminal record and a Statement in lieu of a birth certificate are required to apply for a foreigner identity card in Senegal.
Note: Documents must be in English or French, or accompanied by an official translation in English or French.
Authentication/Attestation (certify the document signature, the position of an official and the seal are genuine):
- Documents issued in Canada must be authenticated by Ƶ in Ottawa before the office will certify the documents (fees apply).
- Witness a signature on a Statement in lieu of certificate of non-impediment to marriage abroad form (fees apply).
- Clients requiring information about authenticating documents while outside of Canada, refer to Authentication of documents.
Certified copy (certify the document is a true copy of the original):
- Documents presented by a Canadian citizen or a non-Canadian citizen for use in Canada; exceptions apply (fees apply).
- Government-issued identification requiring a certified true copy (fees apply).

Payment method
For cash payment in CFA franc, you must have exact change.
Cash payments in Canadian currency are not accepted.
Credit card payments must be done in Canadian currency.
Cabo Verde: Credit card payment when the files are sent via DHL.
Guinea: Cash payment in Guinean francs at the Consulate or credit card payment.
The Gambia: Payment must be done by credit card if the files are sent via DHL.
Guinea-Bissau: Payment must be done by credit card if the files are sent via DHL.

Passport services
Processing times for passport applications are 20 business days and excludes holidays and postal delivery time (about 5 business days). The processing time starts from the date a complete application is received. Note: Passports are printed in Canada, and the Embassy cannot expedite the process.

Passport application requirements vary depending on your country of residence:
In Senegal
You must to present your documents in person.
** For child applications, both the child and the parent-applicant must be present at the time of submission, and the other parent must be present when picking up the passport (if the parents reside in Senegal).
In Guinea
Book an appointment to submit the application for pre-screening at the Consulate of Canada to Guinea, in Conakry.
In Mauritania
Book an appointment to submit the application for pre-screening at the Honorary Consulate of Canada to Mauritania, in Nouakchott.
In The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Cabo Verde
Scan the complete application in PDF format and email it to dakarconsulaire-consular@international.gc.ca for pre-screening. Once validated, you will receive instructions by email to send your application to the Embassy of Canada via courier.

Child passport applications
If your child was born outside of Canada, you may apply for a Canadian passport once you receive their Canadian citizenship certificate.
For children under 2 years old without proof of citizenship, email dakarconsulaire-consular@international.gc.ca with the following mandatory information:
- Your full name or your child’s full name
- Your date of birth or your child’s date of birth (Please submit a valid birth certificate of the child as well as the Pregnancy health record). For birth certificates issued in Guinea, they must be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Guinea.
- Proof that the citizenship certificate application has been submitted
- Proof of confirmed travel including your child’s name and travel date
- Your full contact information
Third-party applicant (De facto applicant):
If both parents are absent, a guardian (de facto applicant) must complete the child passport application as follows:
- Enter the parents’ information in Section 2 (page 1) of the form
- Enter their own information in Section 5 “Declaration of applicant” (page 2)
- At the bottom of page 1, write: “I have been authorized to complete this form”, and then sign and date it
- Both parents must go to a Passport Canada office in Canada to each complete form PPTC 028 giving their consent for a passport to be issued for the child
- In addition, the parent (whether applicant, legal guardian or other) listed in Section 2 of form PPTC 043 must provide a “De Facto Applicant Declaration”, confirming they authorize the guardian to apply for and collect the child’s passport

Lost, stolen, or damaged passports
To replace a lost, stolen, or damaged passport, you must submit a complete new passport application with all documents listed on the page. Submit the application to the embassy as indicated above.
