Cameron MacKay, Ambassador of Canada to Mexico

Biography
Cameron MacKay is a senior Canadian ambassador with over 25 years of diplomatic experience in the Americas, Asia and Europe.
Before his assignment as ambassador to Mexico he was Canada’s High Commissioner in India (also accredited as ambassador to Bhutan and Nepal, 2022 to 2024). Previously he was ambassador to Indonesia (accredited to Timor Leste, 2019 to 2021), and ambassador to Costa Rica (accredited to Honduras and Nicaragua, 2010 to 2012).
His most recent assignment in Ottawa was as director of operations at the Foreign and Defence Policy Secretariat of Canada’s Privy Council Office, advising the Prime Minister and the Cabinet (2017 to 2019). In previous headquarters roles at Canada’s foreign ministry, he was director general for Trade Sectors, director general for Trade Negotiations, and director general for China Trade Policy. He has also served abroad at Canada’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations and the World Trade Organization in Geneva. He joined Canada’s foreign ministry in 1995 and spent his early years in the ministry working on Canada’s relations with the United States.
Ambassador MacKay has a bachelor’s degree in economics and industrial relations from McGill University (Montreal), a master’s degree in environmental studies from York University (Toronto) and is a graduate of the University of Ottawa’s mid-career certificate program in Public Sector Leadership and Governance. He speaks English, French and Spanish. He is married and has two adult children.
